Engineering
Investigation
BACKGROUND: Stratification can
exist in many different locations in an air-handling unit since two different
streams are met in the chamber. The stratification
can be one of temperature, humidity and any other property. The AHU in the
HVAC systems trips several times during the
winter time. Those trips have been triggered by the freezestats installed at
the back of cooling coil (not working during the
winter time). Therefore, there may be
two approaches to resolve this problem. First, try to reduce OA
flow-rate either by changing damper position or by put pressure barrier.
Second, modify flow fields to enhance mixing performance
by putting baffle while the flow rate remains the same.
