Finding the best
locations for diffuser to reduce CO concentration in an underground parking garage
using CFD technique
Background: Fully enclosed, underground, 7 level parking
structure. Test scenario was that 125 cars are waiting to exit for a long
time. These cars emit heat as well as CO into garage space. Main concerns
were: CO concentration distributions, critical speed limitation, and speed
distribution in the excavation area to prevent mold growth. Five different
configurations of diffusers are employed to compare while total CFM is
maintained. CFD data helped engineers to make the right configuration.
